        FAQ

        Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Dedicated Server and Colocation?

Dedicated Server – MacMiniVault.com owns the hardware and you are simply renting the hardware on a monthly basis. MacMiniVault.com pays for all the hardware repairs and you are never charged for repairs.

Colocation – The customer owns the hardware and is responsible for any hardware failures. Do you already own a server that you would like to host in a data center? Consider our colocation options.

How much bandwidth do I get?

All of our dedicated servers are connected to the Internet at 1Gbps (100Mbps by default for Supermicro servers). As long as you are not violating our terms of service and acceptable use policy you will enjoy all the bandwidth you can use.

Can my Linux server share a firewall with my Mac servers?

Yes! We can configure your dedicated server to run on a private IP behind your existing firewall. We’ll coordinate this via a support ticket during deployment.

I need 10 Gbps connectivity - what are my options?

We have 10 Gbps fiber options available for the 1U/2U servers listed on this page. Please contact us by opening a sales ticket or email sales@macminivault.com for details and pricing.

When will my account be provisioned?

All of our dedicated servers are provisioned within 24 hours during business days. Once your server is provisioned in the data center, the hosting instructions will be sent to the email address you provided during the signup process.

        Who is responsible for backups?

You are responsible for backing up the data on any dedicated server. You will have full root/administrator access to your server, and once you change the password, Mac Mini Vault engineers will not have access to your server. We offer two different external drive options (HDD/SSD) so that you can perform backups or clone your drive. If your server ever fails, our engineers can restore from your external drive backups.

How many IP addresses does each server get assigned?

Every dedicated server receives (1) IPv4 address. Additional IPv4 addresses can be added to your hosting account for $1.99 per month. If you would like an IPv6 allocation free of charge, open a support ticket or send an email to support@macminivault.com.
