This policy explains what cookies are, which ones this website uses, and how you can control them. It applies to www.macminivault.com, operated by CyberLynk Network, LLC. Our billing portal at secure.cyberlynk.net is a separate system with its own cookies and policies.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies let a site remember things between pages and visits: a login session, a preference, or an anonymous identifier used for statistics. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are called first-party cookies; cookies set by another company's service embedded in the page are third-party cookies.
2. How we use cookies
We use cookies for three purposes:
- Strictly necessary. One cookie remembers your Accept or Deny choice from our cookie banner so we do not ask on every visit. A separate session cookie exists only for our staff sign-in area and is never set for visitors.
- Analytics. Google Analytics helps us understand how visitors use the site: which pages are read, where visitors come from, and where they get stuck.
- Advertising measurement. Google Ads conversion tracking tells us whether our ads lead to signups, so we can spend our advertising budget sensibly.
Analytics and advertising cookies are set only after you click Accept in the cookie banner.
3. Cookies on this site
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| mmv_consent | Mac Mini Vault | Remembers your Accept or Deny choice so we do not ask again | 12 months |
| mmvadmin | Mac Mini Vault | Sign-in session for our staff admin area; never set for visitors | Session |
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes visitors with a random, anonymous client ID | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Keeps session state for our Google Analytics property | 2 years |
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Stores ad click information for conversion measurement | 3 months |
| _gcl_aw and similar _gcl_* | Google Ads | Store the Google click ID when you arrive from a Google ad | 3 months |
The Google rows apply only after you click Accept. For details on how Google uses cookies and the data they collect, see Google's advertising cookies documentation and Google's cookie policy.
4. Google Consent Mode
We load Google's measurement tag on every page using a feature called Consent Mode. Here is exactly what that means:
- Before you make a choice, and if you deny, the tag runs in a cookieless state. It does not read or write any cookies and stores no identifier on your device.
- In that state the tag still sends anonymous, aggregate signals ("pings") to Google. These carry no cookie and no persistent identifier; Google uses them for aggregate modeling, such as estimating overall visit counts.
- When you click Accept, the tag switches to normal operation and sets the Google cookies listed in section 3.
5. Third-party content
Two older posts on our blog embed a video player from Vimeo. We embed these players with Vimeo's Do Not Track parameter, which tells Vimeo not to set tracking cookies or collect viewing history. Vimeo may still set cookies that are strictly required for playback. See Vimeo's cookie policy for details.
Fonts, images, and all other page assets are served directly from our own domain and set no third-party cookies.
6. Managing your choice
You can change your cookie choice at any time:
The same Cookie Settings link appears in the footer of every page. A new choice takes effect immediately for future page views. If you switch from Accept to Deny, we stop using the Google cookies, but cookies already stored in your browser remain until they expire or you delete them.
You can also manage cookies in your browser, including deleting them and blocking them per site:
Deleting the mmv_consent cookie brings the consent banner back on your next page view.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers can send Do Not Track (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. Our default behavior already matches what these signals request: no analytics or advertising cookies are set unless you explicitly click Accept. We do not use these signals to override a choice you make yourself.
8. Data we collect without cookies
Like nearly every website, our servers keep standard access logs, and our contact form records the IP address and browser identification of the sender to prevent abuse. That data involves no cookies and is covered by our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to this policy
If the cookies we use change, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is material, the consent banner will ask for your choice again.
